Life's Polarized Journey

Often the world can really drag you down
with constant stress and worries day to day.
You’ll smile knowing that things will turn around.

For life’s not life without sorrows to drown.
Death, strife and pain will ruin fun and play.
Often the world can really drag you down.

To be happy you needn’t play the clown,
or frolic, dance and sing out “Come what may.”
You’ll smile knowing that things will turn around.

Swim life’s oceans and let your worries drown,
prepared to handle all that comes your way.
Often the world can really drag you down.

Though poor and low, in dreams you’ll wear a crown
and watch your troubles quickly sail away.
You’ll smile knowing that things will turn around.

When life’s storm rages and your ship is blown
you’ll wonder if you’ll ever find your way.
Often the world can really drag you down.
You’ll smile knowing that things will turn around.

Something from nothing

A flame in the darkness.
A raindrop from a clear blue sky.
A song amid silence.
A child.

Bubbling within veins it flows,
ever searching for an outlet,
looking for a way to escape
and present itself to the world.

Seething from the heart, through
the soul, into
the mind.

Visions that no eyes have ever seen,
yet visions that must explode from within to be exposed to all.

Words without voices.
Words without words.
They echo within the caverns of a body.
Wondering to themselves in a language all their own.

With a flash of brilliance the moment bursts forth,
finding its way to the page.
Contrasting black and white turns symbols into emotion
and chaos into beauty.

Now spent, the creative juices slink back into the body.
The writer collapsing into a heap of pleasure,
knowing
the sense of true euphoria that only comes through absolute creation.

Below

Through the kitchen window, I spied on the children playing in the yard.
Beautiful.  Perfection housed in tiny bodies.
My true contribution to the world.

Up and down the slide.  Back and forth on the swings.
I looked down to my cooking then back again...

Gone.
Swings jiggling with slowing momentum.

I listen for sounds of them around the side in the sand box.
Or maybe the treehouse.

Silence.

I think nothing.
Chop a carrot.  Stir the noodles.
Still no sound.

I lean closer to the window.
Trying to increase my view of the yard.
Nothing.

I walk to the back door and open it.
Silence.
Walk outside.
Empty.

"Jason!?!, Andrew!?!, Julie!?!"
No reply.

Frantic.  Circle the yard.
An open gate wobbling on its hinges.
The front yard.

Julie eating dirt from the flowerbed.
Andrew and Jason playing tag...
     ...In the ROAD!

I scream.  They turn and stare as I run towards them.
They laugh.
And run.  One up the street.  The other across it.

Sprinting, I manage to catch Jason by the sleeve.
Turning back, Andrew is now running back across the road.

He doesn't see the truck.

In the woods

Darkness was thick in the woods.
Occassionally, sunlight cut through
the leaves like a knife.
A small clearing hidden through the trees
Filled with water and lilacs and death.
Ripples danced over the pond
As each maroon drop fell.

The man turned away from the scene.
His body raced away
While his mind, his soul, stayed behind.

The road was unfamiliar.
The journey strange.
The fork
Unexpected.

Which path led to light?  To life?  To love?
Which path led to pain?  To sorrow?  To death?
Joshua opted for the one most travelled
And he hoped for a brighter future.

Contrary

New life’s affliction bears down

With writhing blue green snakes

Squirming below the flesh.

fficeffice" />

Immense pain.  Anguish.

Compounds stress upon stress.

Time drags on.

Strict mandates of stillness.

Silence.

Broken by impish battle cries.

Physical anguish yields to mental.

Disobedient, she skulks forth.

Teeth gritting through the pain.

The battlefield now clean.

The foes eradicated.

She sleeps.

The external battle won.

The internal lost.

Overall war still waging on.
